Reason why I should win.

First off, I want to congratulate all the hyper-cubists that participated. The myriad of eclectic skill sets merged to create a mish-mosh of inspiration that challenged me to raise my creativity to a level I haven’t been at in a while. I’ve built relationships with genuinely kind people who’ve served as encouragement especially in the face of such impassioned competition (you know who you are).

From the energy and aura surrounding this contest I managed to produce nine (9) videos in line with my themed “moods while driving” and an additional six (6) videos helping to promote the Cube to the legendary status it deserves. Each one began with a “C” for the Cube and had it’s own vanity license plate doubling as the theme for it’s own video. My Canvassing for votes stretched from downtown Toronto to the East side of Trenton (where I filmed the video for “Charitable”).

I’ve been a Nissan ambassador for a while now (my household’s current vehicle is a 93’ Nissan Sentra and my previous car was a 89’ of the same make). In search of a car, I’ve been transformed into a Cubie for life and win or lose I’m indebted to you for this opportunity to hone my own talents and to have discovered a bit more of Julie. Thank you Nissan and equally as important thank you my Cubie comrades.

P.S.
I didn’t really state why I should win because it’s so difficult to justify why I should when there are so many other phenomenal contestants. With that said, I gave it my all and I hope that I managed to inspire someone in the same vein that I’ve been throughout this process

THANK YOU NISSAN CANADA, CAPITAL C & HYPERCUBISTS

FINAL DAY OR SHOULD I SAY NIGHT?

It seems as thought days turn into nights, nights turn into days and after all this its the end of the road. Well hopefully not literally. I just returned back from the 4th Cube TweetUp with (might I add) an exceptional turnout from our Toronto Cubies. I'm in awe at all the team players and genuine participants who just wanted to get to know each other and have a good time. It's been such an interesting collaboration of minds and personalities that a common thread like the Cube has brought us there to share ourselves with each other. It's not everyday you can surround yourself with creative people.

Creative people who have such an enthusiasm for a goal and a passion to take a risk and invest so much time and effort without any real guarantee that they'll make it to the finish line. When it's all said and done, none of us really know what they will be judging to make the final decisions. However I hope everyone has felt appreciated and has grown from this experience, so that win or lose they leave with something much greater than a car. I hope they value this time spent on themselves and pushing limits they never thought they'd reach. Myself I never planned on ever being on youtube, however here I am with more than nine videos posted up. I don't regret a thing about this contest and I'm glad I entered and stuck it out with full force.

Here's my photo from yesterday of the Balloon Animal Nissan Cube! Thanks to Andy the Clown.

Cheers.

ONTARIO

Soon enough this wonderful contest will be all over and I will hopefully be eligible to order myself a vanity plate for my brand new 09' Nissan Cube. Here is a snappy of the license plates that started it all. My nine "C's" for the mood and personalities I will have when driving my Cube. "C" is for Cube and "C" is for CHOOSE ME TO WIN :) If i didn't make a sneaky plug somewhere this wouldn't be a contest LOL.

Thanks again to everyone who put this competition together and the judges for their time and effort.

MODEL CUBE

So I spent the day making myself a Hot Wheels size version of the Nissan Cube. Might give her a cameo in one of my next videos LOL but more importantly it's a healthy reminder of why I entered this competition. That being hard work and determination, it's been the longest competition I've ever entered and the most rewarding. It's given me a chance to be back outside of the "cube" way of thinking. Sometimes as a designer we are placed in a situation where we get "designers block". You're constantly working on other peoples projects with other peoples vision because at the end of the day they're paying the bucks for what they want. So it's nice to finally have a chance again to work on a project with my own vision and direction and no one can Vito my ideas except well...maybe you know copyright infringement laws LOL! But other than that this competition has worth the labor of love.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

How many weeks ago did myself plus 499 talented cubies get selected to be a part of one of the most influential social marketing projects we've ever seen. I remember brainstorming all night before our canvases had to be up on April 16th. Here's a flash back photo of my thumb sketches for the infamous "Julie's Dollhouse".

MUCH NEEDED CUBE PROTECTION

So I'm on the 401 driving to 8 WING Trenton Air Force Base to pick up my husband on Thursday April 30th. For those of you not in the GTA and surrounding area it was horrible outside, monster rain and slippery roads. My husband and I share a 93' Nissan Sentra and as amazing as it is to have that baby still making long distances from Toronto to Trenton with more than 280,000km I was terrified.

The Sentra was great but it was the playground bully MAC TRUCKS trying to pressure me off the road. You'd be surprised what those big guns try to do to us little guys on the road... and if your in their way look out baby!

Here's a photo from my iphone documenting some of my bullies that evening!

No lie, once I got off the highway I was shaking for a good 45 minutes after :(

Shout outs to Rose my little sister!

I welcome anyone interested in joining the Big Brothers and Big Sisters to check it out it's a rewarding program and you can really impact the life of a child who needs someone to look up to. by Jonathan Paul

Canada's creatively inclined are rolling with Nissan's social media-based launch promotion for its new Cube car, even taking the contest offline and into the real world.

Since the promo kicked off in February, the number of artsy Canadians signing up to try and win one of the cars has escalated, with a 40% jump in registrations over the weekend. To date, 4,860 Canadians have registered via email with 1,000 completed profiles/surveys submitted. Out of these, 500 will be selected to audition for one of the cars. An out-of-box campaign for a square-boned newcomer

Lots going on to lift the spirits - even, remarkably, in the auto sector.

Consider the Cube from Nissan Motor Co. A hit in Japan, where it has been available for a decade, the Cube is on its way to the Canadian market, launching in May.

Just look at her, sitting there like a sawed-off, stumpified milk truck. Is she beautiful? Is she ugly? Do you love her? Not so much?

An emotional reaction is what Nissan, and its advertising agency, Capital C, hope to trigger as they launch what appears to be a first-ever social experiment: bringing a car to a new market without the aid of conventional media.

Jeff Parent, Nissan Canada's vice-president for sales and marketing, says that when he started to think about how to set the Cube's first impressions in the Canadian market he was guided by this thought: "What I didn't want to do was ruin it."

Let's talk a bit about the car first: it has this funky rear window that wraps around one of her hind quarters. And the side windows have a picture frame look. I didn't get a chance to tour the car in person, but I have seen enough shots and video to attest to a roomy interior with a couple of quirky design features (Mr. Parent likens the moulding of the interior roof to the rippling effect caused by a stone thrown into a calm pond.)

An open letter to Nissan to give us a Cube

So, as you can see from the previous post, Nissan Canada is giving away 50 Nissan Cubes to 50 people all over Canada. I think AutoNorth deserves one.

Most of the people chosen will be 'lifestyle hipsters' showing how well their Cubes will tote around their friends to art galleries, poetry readings, and barista conventions all over metropolitan centers in Canada. But, what about us normal car people that every now and then fall in love with funky and slightly weird boxy cars?

Nissan auditions the Cube via social media campaign

Nissan Canada has launched a social media-based campaign and contest to promote the launch of its 2009 Nissan Cube model.

The “Hypercube” campaign is based on a contest that will award 50 winners the prize of a new Cube. Consumers who visit Hypercube.ca can fill out a basic entry form and complete a survey on why they should be selected to move on to the second phase of the competition.

The Hypercube and Open Source Marketing

"Rather than spend millions on traditional advertising, Nissan Canada is instead going to give away 50 vehicles to people who they hope will use those vehicles as part of their already creative and somewhat public lives. This type of crowd source marketing on a national and evolving scale is truly impressive, not to mention risky. Yet as a model for open source marketing it demonstrates a courage and vision that I think will be necessary in getting through and even thriving in these volatile times that we're in."

FDA Says to Stop Eating Peanut Butter

The Food and Drug Administration says Americans should “postpone” eating cookies, crackers, candy and ice cream that contain peanut butter or peanut paste while the agency works to establish which products are tainted with the strain of salmonella typhimurium which has sickened 474 people nationwide and is implicated in six deaths.

“Product specific information will become available in the next few days,” says Stephen Sundlof, director of FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

While snack products are potentially contaminated, supermarket peanut butter is not.

It appears that the only peanut butter linked to the outbreak was an institutional brand sold in 5 to 50 pounds tubs to schools, hospitals and nursing homes under the King Nut and Parnell’s Pride label. It was never sold at the retail level and is not available at supermarkets and grocery stores, FDA says.

As for products that might contain the tainted peanut butter and peanut paste, FDA is encouraging companies that bought from the Peanut Corporation of America’s Blakely, Ga., plant to inform consumers their products might be contaminated.
